What is The Learning Bridge?

The Learning Bridge is a volunteer-run, non-profit online tutoring organization for kids in grades K-12. We recruit tutors and pair them with students who match their educational expertise and knowledge. Aside from one-on-one tutoring, we also provide group tutoring services, Genius Hour workshops and Summer Academies!

What inspired you to volunteer with this organization?

The cadet program opened my eyes to just how rewarding it is to be involved in education. I started looking for educational organizations I could volunteer my time with because I felt it was a great way to work for something I'm passionate about while gaining experience working with teams, professional organizations, and planning events.

What roles have you played within this organization?

I serve as the Director of Human Resources. I love how versatile the role is - I get to interact with students, parents, and tutors, plan events, organize information and refine administrative processes. The latter two can sound pretty boring but it's right up my alley!

Why do you continue to volunteer with this organization?

I began volunteering in late August of 2020 and have been driven to continue volunteering by a couple of reasons. Firstly, we are expanding quickly and I want to help this organization become all that it can be - it has so much potential. Secondly, I love working with my team - we've got a great set of executive members who all work exceptionally hard to provide kids with the education they deserve. And lastly, knowing that my work supports student education in a free and accessible manner makes it easy to stay motivated, curious, and creative.

What is your favourite memory volunteering with this organization?

The events we plan take months to reach their polished stage. Because of this, witnessing our events and programs be received with enthusiasm and excitement is an incredibly uplifting feeling. Specifically, spots for our Summer Academy program this year filled up within mere days of registration opening, and we had multiple eager students on the waitlist as well. When my team informed me that we had reached our capacity in just days, I was excited beyond words.

What does this organization do to impact or improve your community?

Gosh, where do I even begin?? Education is so, so, so vital to the beginnings of a bright and self-sustainable future. Being able to provide education to students who are struggling or are eager to learn ahead gives kids the chance to develop their full learning potential. Plus, our tutors are able to learn from their students as well - the skills they gain in communication, patience, organization, leadership and commitment are lifelong skills they will carry wherever they go. We are helping a new generation of leaders and teachers refine their skills, and an even newer generation of students discover their passion for learning.

What else do you want us to know?

Please don't hesitate to sign up as a student or tutor if you feel so inclined! (Note that new students and tutors will be paired in late August.)

I can't wait to have you as a part of our organization. Regardless, remember that learning is a lifelong journey, so stay curious!
