HMCS Quadra Cadets

September 30th 2022
This past summer saw the return of summer camps for Sea, Army and Air Cadets. While some our younger BC Mainland Division cadets participated in Cadet Activity Programs closer to home, a number of the older cadets returned to Cadet Training Centres in Vernon and Comox. If you haven’t checked out Vernon Cadets and HMCS Quadra Cadets now is the time as they will both be archived as of 10th October 2022.

A new course offering this summer was the Cadet Marine Small Engine Repair Course. This article from the HMCS Quadra Facebook page, written by PA Team member, Lt(N) Corey Malone features this new training opportunity. Enjoy!

Greetings from the Engine Room!

The Cadet Marine Small Engine Repair Course got an exclusive opportunity to tour the engine room of the Salish Heron owned by BC Ferries with the help of our very own Lt(N) Pawlik, who acts as a Chief Engineer when not busy being the Commanding Officer of RCSCC Captain Vancouver.

'BC Ferries is committed to making sure young people know the amazing opportunities we have.' Lt(N) Pawlik said. 'If I could get even one person involved with us, then it's all worth it'

During the tour, the Cadets got to see the inner workings of the engine room, but also had the unique opportunity to be invited on the bridge to watch the Heron cross the Active Pass, which is a 302-metre wide space making it the most narrow passage BC Ferries goes through.

The Cadet Marine Small Engine Repair Course takes place on Annacis Island and cadets get trained by professional engineers at BCIT. They will return next summer to finish the course and earn college credit upon successful completion.
